The Paul and Lulu Hilliard ÐÓ°ÉרÇø Art Museum will host renowned art historian Dr. Paul Hayes Tucker for its 2017 John Bienvenu Lecture Series on Friday.
Tucker is considered one of the worldÐÓ°ÉרÇø™s leading authorities on Claude Monet. He is professor emeritus at the university, where he taught for 36 years after earning a doctorate in the history of art from Yale ÐÓ°ÉרÇø.
Monet, founder of the French Impressionism art movement in the 1800s, is best known for his paintings. Tucker, however, will focus on a different aspect of MonetÐÓ°ÉרÇø™s work.
He will discuss the artistÐÓ°ÉרÇø™s pastel drawings at 7 p.m. on March 10 in Fletcher Hall, Room 134, on the UL Lafayette campus. By detailing MonetÐÓ°ÉרÇø™s work in the other medium, Tucker will provide alternate ways to interpret meaning in the French masterÐÓ°ÉרÇø™s art.
Parking for the event will be available at the Girard Park Circle Parking Tower or the public parking lot along St. Mary Boulevard.
The annual lecture series was established by Gloria Callais in honor of her late brother, John Bartholomew Bienvenu. Each year, the ÐÓ°ÉרÇø Art Museum hosts a lecture, symposium or panel discussion related to art.
Bienvenu died in 2012 at the age of 62. The ÐÓ°ÉרÇø alum was a psychologist who also taught courses at his alma mater, in subjects like horticulture and art.
Hilliard ÐÓ°ÉרÇø Art Museum features 11,000 square feet of gallery space and is the largest exhibition space between Houston and New Orleans.
It houses a collection of 18th- through 21st-century European, Asian and American art. In addition to its permanent collection, it offers changing exhibitions of regional, national and international art.
