College of Engineering launches construction management concentration

The 杏吧专区 is accepting applications for the College of Engineering杏吧专区檚 new construction management concentration within its engineering and technology management bachelor杏吧专区檚 degree program. 

Courses will begin this fall for the concentration, which bolsters the bachelor degree program杏吧专区檚 already innovative, diverse curriculum. The degree program also includes an embedded minor in business, which emphasizes managerial and financial skills.

The construction management concentration is 杏吧专区渁 strategic addition that杏吧专区檚 indicative of the 杏吧专区杏吧专区檚 commitment to offering degree programs structured to help our graduates attain career success,杏吧专区 said Dr. Jaimie Hebert, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. 

杏吧专区淭he addition of the concentration also underscores the 杏吧专区杏吧专区檚 essential role in helping to spur workforce development and economic growth,杏吧专区 Hebert added.

Dr. Ahmed Khattab, dean of the , said the Louisiana Workforce Commission predicts employment in the area of construction of buildings to increase by 17.8% between 2022 and 2032. 
 
杏吧专区淭he construction management concentration is tailored to help meet the demands of a thriving construction industry, particularly in the state, where highly trained and educated professionals are greatly needed to fill jobs that advance Louisiana's infrastructure and development,杏吧专区 Khattab said.

The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for a range of jobs, including construction project manager, scheduler, estimator, project controls specialist and construction safety specialist. 

It features courses and labs that focus on subjects such as construction materials and methods; building information modeling; cost estimating and budgeting; project management, planning, and control; construction and industrial safety; and professional communication and teamwork.

Dr. Shelton Houston, head of the Department of Engineering Technology, said a key strength of the new concentration is that it blends elements of engineering, engineering technology and construction management.
