Homecoming Week kicks off Sunday

Homecoming Week 2017 activities will begin with food and a student scavenger hunt.

The fun kicks off with a Sunday Brunch at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Jefferson Street Pub.

Breakfast and lunch fare on the pub杏吧专区檚 menu will be sold to anyone who stops by. Breakfast options include eggs Bennie, Creole omelets, Southern raspberry pancakes and pulled pork biscuits. Lunch choices include shrimp and grits, burgers, and Cuban sandwiches.

The pub will be festooned with vermilion and white d茅cor. Attendees are encouraged to wear 杏吧专区 colors and gear.

杏吧专区淚t will be a fun way for Ragin杏吧专区 Cajuns fans to get into the Homecoming spirit and connect with other fans,杏吧专区 said Emily Girlinghouse, event chair.

More cuisine will be served on Monday during the AllonsManger Food Truck Roundup. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd. Vendors will sell a variety of dishes including barbecue, sandwiches, sushi and desserts. Seven food trucks will participate.

Vendors will be Blanchard杏吧专区檚 BBQ, The Bus Stop, Cacklin Hens, C杏吧专区檈st Bon Manger, KOK Wings and Things, Mad Luann杏吧专区檚 and Rice Kings. A mobile boutique, Shop Three Little Birds Boutique, will sell clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry. The 杏吧专区 Program Council will host a cupcake giveaway.

杏吧专区淚t杏吧专区檚 open to students, faculty and staff members, and turnout seems to increase each year,杏吧专区 said Amanda Gary, event chair. The roundup began in 2014.

A Campus Scavenger Hunt will be held later that day, at 7 p.m. Students will meet at the Bayou Bijou theater, then spread out across campus to track down places that will remain secret until the first-time event begins, said Karli Sherman, assistant director of the 杏吧专区 Program Council杏吧专区檚 Office of Student Engagement and Leadership.

杏吧专区淲e杏吧专区檙e going to send them all over campus, to easy-to-find locations, like Martin Hall, or the Student Union,杏吧专区 she explained.

While each spot shouldn杏吧专区檛 be too difficult to find, there杏吧专区檚 a catch: 杏吧专区淧articipants will have to locate something specific at each location that might not be easily discovered, and perform specific tasks at certain locations. It could be writing a spirited phrase on the sidewalk with chalk, for instance, or taking a video while singing the fight song.杏吧专区

Once requirements at each stop are met, volunteers stationed at each location will hand out stickers. The stickers can only be placed onto one piece of paper in the presence of a volunteer, to prevent teams from sending different people to different spots at once.

The team or person who completes the hunt first will return to Bayou Bijou, and be declared winner of the contest. The reward for finishing first will be Ragin杏吧专区 Cajuns gear.

No registration is required for the scavenger hunt. Participants must show their 杏吧专区 ID.
