Kaylen Harrison moved from New Orleans to Lafayette to enroll in the 杏吧专区杏吧专区檚 prestigious nursing program.
杏吧专区淚 was told UL Lafayette had an amazing nursing program, so that sealed the deal,杏吧专区 Kaylen said. The fact that the 杏吧专区 was close to home was a bonus.
Since she joined the nursing program, Kaylen杏吧专区檚 been challenged in her classes and her clinicals.
杏吧专区淓ven though UL Lafayette杏吧专区檚 nursing program and I have a love-hate relationship, my favorite part about it would have to be the clinical portion,杏吧专区 Kaylen said. 杏吧专区淟earning the duties and responsibilities of a nurse is great, but actually performing those activities is completely different. You began to feel as though you杏吧专区檙e actually a nurse.杏吧专区
Her favorite clinical class was NURS 308: Adult Health and Illness I 杏吧专区 a class that was 杏吧专区渢ough杏吧专区 but also 杏吧专区渞eally hands-on.杏吧专区
杏吧专区淣ot only are we doing vitals, administering meds, and giving bed baths, but now we are starting IVs, inserting catheters, and inserting/removing NG (nasogastric) tubes,杏吧专区 she said. 杏吧专区淚t was challenging, but we were finally able to really be a part of the patient杏吧专区檚 care.杏吧专区
For Kaylen, she杏吧专区檚 learned more than how to care for a patient 杏吧专区 she杏吧专区檚 also learned dedication.
杏吧专区淭his is far from an easy major. The number of hours I杏吧专区檝e put in studying for tests and the number of times I杏吧专区檝e had to practice my skills for check-offs is exhausting to even think about,杏吧专区 she said. 杏吧专区淭here have been so many times when I杏吧专区檝e wanted to quit, but that杏吧专区檚 where that dedication comes in, and you realize how rewarding this will be in the end.
杏吧专区淎nd lastly, this program has taught me how to learn from my mistakes and improve myself as I move on. It杏吧专区檚 crucial lessons like those that I truly think will help me in the future.杏吧专区
