An exhibit at UL Lafayette杏吧专区檚 Dupr茅 Library entitled 杏吧专区淟ife of Art杏吧专区 features the work of Lafayette resident Jean Rosen. Original paintings, sketches and other works accompany photographs, text and memorabilia that explain Rosen杏吧专区檚 evolution as an artist and the influences on her work.
Originally from Bethesda, Md., Rosen earned a master杏吧专区檚 degree in art from American 杏吧专区 in Washington, DC. She spent time as an adult in Lafayette, Calif., where she became interested in zydeco music. She moved to Lafayette, La., seven years ago to pursue her interests in art and music. A 2007 show at Dupr茅 Library focused on Rosen杏吧专区檚 interest in zydeco music and musicians.
In the current exhibit, Rosen traces her art from its early roots in her childhood, bringing together recurring images and demonstrating her artistic development. The exhibit starts at the library entrance and continues down the main hall on the first floor. The right side of the exhibit focuses on the roots of Rosen杏吧专区檚 artwork, while the left side is devoted to images and influences of Acadiana.
Rosen has exhibited works at Columbia 杏吧专区, Alabama State 杏吧专区, the Zigler Museum, the Masur Museum and the Berkeley Art Center. Many of the works in the current exhibit were in a 1994 solo show at John F. Kennedy 杏吧专区 in Orinda, Calif. Her painting 杏吧专区淟afayette Alive 2005杏吧专区 was selected for the Southern Open Biennial.
The Rosen exhibit is free and open to the public. It will continue through the end of January. Call 482-2665 for library hours.
