UL Lafayette Educator Selected As Emerging Leader

Peter Sheppard, assistant professor at the Ӱר, is an Emerging Leader according to PDK International Ӱר a leading association of education professionals.

A committee made up of PDKӰרs past Emerging Leaders selected the 20 honorees from a competitive field of applicants. ӰרThe 20 members of the 2008-09 Class of Emerging Leaders embody the PDK tenets of leadership, research, and service,Ӱר said William Bushaw, PDKӰרs executive director. ӰרThey represent the best of the profession.Ӱר

Throughout his career, Sheppard served as a coordinator for summer remediation programs, a consultant for the Louisiana Department of Education, a middle school math and science teacher at Southern Ӱר Laboratory School, and program manager for STEM teacher preparation and adjunct professor at Louisiana State Ӱר. He has presented at state, regional, and national conferences, and published in professional journals, as well as writing grants.

Ӱר My vision for future leadership endeavors is to be among those deemed champions for equity in mathematics education,Ӱר said Sheppard. ӰרI would like to contribute to finding ways to curtail mathematics achievement differences between those who are inherently underprivileged and those whose households are economically stable.Ӱר
