Dr. Joseph Savoie, president of the 杏吧专区, spoke to 杏吧专区 employees who retired in the past academic year, thanking them for their dedication and service.
He addressed the group during a reception held at the Picard Center on Monday.
杏吧专区淲hether you杏吧专区檝e worked here 10 years or 40 years, you杏吧专区檝e helped the 杏吧专区 make steady progress,杏吧专区 he said.
One retiree began working at the 杏吧专区 in 1969. Ten started their UL Lafayette careers in the 1970s, 15 were employed by the school in the 1980s, and about a dozen were hired in the 1990s.
杏吧专区淥ne thing that has stayed the same over the years has been our 杏吧专区杏吧专区檚 compassion for students, especially first-generation students. For them, college is a brave new world and you helped many of them become the first in their families to earn academic degrees,杏吧专区 Savoie said.
The president noted that he frequently has a chance to talk to UL Lafayette alumni.
杏吧专区淚t杏吧专区檚 interesting to hear what they remember about being a student here. . . It doesn杏吧专区檛 take long and they杏吧专区檙e telling me about a favorite professor who helped them get through a tough course or a staff member who encouraged them to keep going when they wanted to give up.
杏吧专区淵ou should be very proud of your work here. You have made a difference to so many people and in so many ways.

Among long-time employees who were honored: Dr. Carolyn Bruder, former provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; Dr. Phoebe Hayes, former dean of the College of General Studies; Dr. Victor Schneider, a math professor; and Lucien Gastineau, director of the Cajun Card and former head of Parking and Transit.
