Program Requirements

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the MS in Nursing program online, you must have:

A baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an NLN or CCNE accredited undergraduate (USA) program.
A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Completion of an undergraduate statistics course and a Health assessment course (across the lifespan).
Louisiana Registered Nurse License - active and unencumbered.

Application Materials

To complete your application, you'll need to provide the following. With the exception of transcripts, all documents can be submitted through the online application portal.

Application fee ($25).
Resume.
Official transcripts from the institution attended are required for the following:
- All institutions where any degree was awarded
- All institutions where any graduate coursework was attempted
Three (3) letters of reference from persons who can attest to your ability to be successful in a graduate nursing program (Note: One (1) of the three (3) required references must be from a recent supervisor/employer).
A letter of application to include a discussion of the applicant's goals in pursuing a graduate degree in nursing, potential contributions to the MSN program at UL Lafayette and plans for nursing practice upon completion of graduate study.

Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration

Upon successful completion of the MSN curriculum, students meet educational requirements to take the Nurse Practitioner Role: Family Nurse Practitioner national certification examination, and to apply for an advanced practice license.

To complete the MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner online degree concentration, the student must adhere to the following degree plan requirements:

Earn a minimum of 42-45 credit hours: Family Nurse Practitioner concentration.
Attain a minimum of 600 precepted clinical hours in Louisiana.
Satisfactorily complete a Focused Scholarly Project or Thesis.
Earn no less than a "B" grade in all coursework.
- Note: Students who earn less than a "B" grade in a course will be required to repeat that course. A course may be repeated only once. Courses with a grade of "C" may not be applied toward the degree requirements.

Nursing Education Concentration

To earn the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education, the student must adhere to the following degree plan requirements:

Earn a minimum of 40-43 credit hours: Nursing Education concentration.
Satisfactorily complete a Focused Scholarly Project or Thesis.
Earn no less than a "B" grade in all coursework.
- Note: Students who earn less than a "B" grade in a course will be required to repeat that course. A course may be repeated only once. Courses with a grade of "C" may not be applied toward the degree requirements.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Concentration

To complete the MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner online program you must adhere to the following:

48 credit hours: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner concentration.
Attain a minimum of 600 precepted, direct patient care clinical hours in Louisiana.
Satisfactorily complete a Focused Scholarly Project.
Earn no less than a "B" grade in all coursework.
Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0

Note: Students who earn less than a "B" grade in a course will be required to repeat that course. A course may be repeated only once. Courses with a grade of "C" may not be applied toward the degree requirements.

Eligibility

Because courses in the online psychiatric nurse practitioner program will only be available online, the program may not be available to all applicants. The �Ӱ�ר�� and its online programs must be in compliance in every state where a student is located. International students also may not be eligible. According to U.S. immigration regulations, F-1 students cannot pursue online degrees; international students in other visa categories (i.e., H-4, L2) are exempt from this restriction.
