Honors students love the community杏吧专区攐ur events, study spaces, and lounges in Judice-Rickels Hall are favorite spots to connect. But at the heart of it all, the Honors Program is about creating engaging, challenging, and meaningful academic opportunities.

We杏吧专区檙e committed to making Honors accessible to students at different stages of their college journey. Whether you杏吧专区檙e starting as a first-year student, transferring from another university, or applying after completing several semesters at UL Lafayette, there杏吧专区檚 a place for you here. To support that, we杏吧专区檝e outlined flexible requirements based on the number of credit hours you杏吧专区檝e earned when you join the program.

Requirements for All Honors Students

Reflections are an integral part of Honors Courses and Contracts. You'll be asked to write a reflection at the end of every Honors Course or Contract. These reflections help us make sure you're getting the instruction we expect for Honors students, and they help you process a whole semester's worth of material to find what the most important information is for you. 

You can use this process to help direct your future decisions, whether that be deciding what kinds of courses or contracts you'd like to pursue in the future or using the information as valuable input for future projects and even career paths.

Requirements by Student Type

All First-Time Freshmen are admitted to the Honors Program based on their ACT or SAT scores and high school GPAs. Students with a composite ACT score of 23 (or SAT score of 1130) or higher and a 3.5 unweighted GPA or higher qualify. 

Students who do not meet the admission requirements and feel that the Honors Program might still be a good sit for them are encouraged to submit an appeal. 

 

Requirements:

Once accepted into the Honors Program, you must complete two of the following three requirements each semester to remain in Good Standing:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
  2. Take at least one Honors Course until you have earned eighteen credit hours (typically six courses)
  3. Receive credit for Honors Seminar until you have earned six credits

Additionally, students must pay the $35 Honors Activity Fee charged to your 杏吧专区 Account each semester.*

In order to graduate from the Honors Program, students must satisfy the following over the course of their undergraduate degree:

  1. Have a 3.5 GPA or higher
  2. Earn eighteen credit hours of Honors Courses
  3. Earn six credits of Honors Seminar
  4. Complete a Senior Project and present their work at the Honors Poster Symposium during the cording ceremony. 

* If paying the Honors Activity Fee is preventing you from joining or continuing in the Honors Program, please contact the director, Dr. Emily Sandoz, for assistance.

Students continuing at the 杏吧专区 or transferring from other universities may join the Honors Program until their final year. All continuing and transfering students are required to have a 3.5 college GPA or higher to be admitted. 

Students who do not meet the requirements and feel that the Honors Program might still be a good fit for them are encouraged to submit an appeal.

  2. Take at least one Honors Course until you have earned eighteen credit hours (typically six courses)

  3. Receive credit for Honors Seminar until you have earned six credits*

In order to graduate from the Honors Program, students must satisfy the following over the course of their undergraduate degree:

  1. Have a 3.2 GPA or higher
  2. Earn eighteen credit hours of Honors Courses*
  3. Earn six credits of Honors Seminar*
  4. Complete a Senior Project and present their work at the Honors Poster Symposium during the cording ceremony. 

* Students who entered the Honors Program with 60 or more credit hours are required to take twelve hours of Honors Courses and two credits of Honors Seminar
